The One and Only PlayStation 3 Laptop
At last there’s a worthy successor to the PSP – a 16-pound PlayStation 3 Laptop designed by Ben Heck. Unfortunately it’s not likely in line for mass-production at Sony. This is a one-of-a-kind item being auctioned off for charity at engadget.com.
My first thought was that Sony had made a few cutbacks on the portability factor with its new version of the PlayStation Portable. It’s not an entirely pocket-friendly gadget, with its 720p 17″ screen and 16 pounds of the latest gaming hardware.
But no, this is the first and almost certainly last PS3 Laptop – put together by console modding wizard Ben Heck (benheck.com). He built it exclusively for a charity auction at Engadget.com, and 100% of the proceeds will go to the National Cancer Coalition.
Basically, it can do just about anything that the original PS3 is capable of and more; it’s an original 60GB model with a slot loading Blu-ray drive, keyboard and stereo speakers. Plus, if you have strong arms you could take it with you. Imagine the envious (?) looks on people’s faces when you pull out this contraption for a quick gaming session on the bus.
If you’re quick about it, the PlayStation 3 Laptop is still up for grabs on eBay. The highest bid is $24,000, as of April 22.
