Panasonic has upgraded their “Semi-Rugged Toughbook 52” with a touchscreen option and other features.
Judging by the press release CG has provided, the semi-ruggedness and new touchscreen are the most important upgrades. If you have the attention span to read the tiny text immediately underneath the title, you’ll notice that the processor, battery life and memory have also been improved.
Panasonic Toughbooks are known for being, well, tough and durable, and even the “semi-rugged” 52 series is drop-and-spill tested so that you won’t have to worry about it breaking on the job. The specs for the 15.4″ notebook aren’t quite top of the line, but if you’re buying this so you can play WoW on 3G while extreme hangliding, well, you’ve got other issues. Actually, come to think of it, it could probably handle WoW.
The notebooks come with up to a P8600 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo and a choice of a 1080p widescreen resolution or a smaller WXGA LCD with optional 13.3″ XGA sunlight-viewable touchscreen LCD. It’ll pack a few GB of RAM, a shock mounted 160GB HDD, optional WWAN and 802.111/b/g/n and Bluetooth. It tips the scales at around 7.5lbs and should burn your wallet for between $1699 and $2549, touchscreen pending.
