Fake Apples, Anyone?
Today has seen advancements in fake Apple laptops, desktops, and netbooks. The choices have never been wider for someone who wants to pretend they actually have a Mac.
So, you’ve heard of Psystar, right? We’ve covered them before, and it seems every few weeks there’s another development – it’s almost getting tedious. But it seems that the “Open Computer” makers have pushed forward with an updated version of their Open Pro along with a new slimline desktop dubbed the Open(3) computer. The Open(3) starts with a 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo CPU, 2GB DDR2 RAM, 500GB HDD, and a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS GPU for $599. This puppy does not come standard with FireWire, Bluetooth, 802.11n, etc, but all those and other upgrades are available for a price. Oh, and did we mention it comes with Leopard preinstalled? But of course.
Apple has been in the process of suing these guys for months, but the court date isn’t until November. While they’re at it, maybe they should sue Top Crown. The company has released a nice little netbook running on a VIA CPU, and, why look at that, an exact copy of Apple’s logo turned backwards. One day maybe Apple won’t cost so much and these things can go by the wayside. Until then I’ll don my foakleys and cruise around town showing off my hackintosh, reflecting the sun in people’s eyes off of my folex.
