DVD laptops – Blu-Ray or HD-DVD?

Bubbling under the surface of the ocean of laptops there is a struggle. We have reported on this before with the battle of Blu-ray technology against the HD-DVD system to provide the next generation of DVD:

Toshiba opts for HD-DVD

There are pros and cons to each of the new systems, with the potential loser being the ever-confused consumer.

In one corner we have Sony, Dell and Hewlett-Packard all favouring the Blu-ray tech, and with Sony on board you know that the Vaio range of laptops and the new Playstation 3 games console are going to place this new format in the homes of many passionate gamers.

The other side of the coin, the HD-DVD format, has some big players on it’s side as well, with the mighty Toshiba top of this pile.

So who is missing from this little battle of the formats? Well, Apple have finally plumped for a format, and it’s decided to swim with the blu-ray. With uber-cool Apple making this decision, in many quarters the DVD format fight is now over.

Is it time to call the priest in on HD-DVD laptops?
