The Year of Wireless Mobility
A while ago, in an article published by Lockergnome, we stated that 2005 would be the year of the laptop. We also reported that laptop computers had slam-dunked TV sales. Now we hear that notebooks have outsold desktop computers in the United States, for the first time in a calendar month.
A report compiled by statistics firm, current analysis, revealed that laptop sales accounted for over 50% of the personal computer market last month. The main reason why laptops are selling out faster than a corrupt Moldovian figure skating judge? – Prices for advanced models are getting much cheaper, thus increasing the demand for mobile computers.
Once all you could buy for $2000 was a 10kg shoebox with a cdrom drive. Today wireless enabled laptops, with Bluetooth technology and DVD players, can be purchased for well under a grand, even less you don’t mind going the refurbished route. With ever more advanced wireless technology blossoming around us, it’s not suprising that folks are desperate to become part of the increasingly affordable wi-fi revolution.
This is just the beginning folks. laptops are getting cheaper, faster and lighter. We’ll be the first to let you when notebooks outsell cans of coke 🙂
