Linux Site Taking Nominations for New Award

The good folks at TuxMobil, dedicated to providing hands-on installation information on Linux and mobile computers, are gearing up to host their first competition for Free Software projects that improve Linux for laptops and other mobile devices.

The award, sponsored by Serialio, TriSoft, and Xtops.DE, is accepting nominations for programs, drivers, ports or documentation for laptops, notebooks, PDAs, mobile phones and portable media players, so dress your wares in their best suits and send in your suggestions now to – award_at_tuxmobil.org. You have until June 30, 2005, the first-prize winner will receive a SHARP SL-6000L (Zaurus) Linux PDA.

TuxMobil is actively involved in providing answers to your basic “FAQs” about installing and running Linux, BSD, Solaris, and other UniXes on accessories like portable music and video players, laptops, cellular phones, PDAs, and other mobile computer devices.

The company also features a news column on their website, Tuxmobil, to keep you up to date on the latest news on Linux laptops and other accessories, and a “fun stuff” section, where the “Tux” staff and friends can post and share humorous, “all in a day’s work” mobile computer stories. They’re also the ones to call if you’re a “wandering” Linux user, providing tips on finding the right batteries and wireless LANs and repair.

The contest winners will be selected and announced on July 15, 2005, by a distinguished panel, including the Editor-in-Chief of LinuxUser magazine; the president of the Free Software Foundation Europe; and the founder of TuxMobil, Werner W. Heuser.

So brush off the “best of the best” in your category and grab an award!
